The way I see it they're just running down the villain list.

- "!Russia!" didn't stick.

- "Literally Hitler!" didn't stick. (And "Deplorables" backfired magnificently, but that's another discussion.)

Now we're to "Peron." The left won't use Chavez, Fidel, etc. because they're good guys to the left. They might use Batista. Pol Pot is iffy - nasty piece of work, but he played for their team, so I'd guess not.

Personally, I'm waiting for them to get to Arsaces of the Parthian Empire. Why would they choose him? Well, founder of a dynasty, but other than that he sounds kind of like a Star Wars / Marvel villain.

The Left also won't use Xinping, Chairman Mao, Kim Jong Il, Stalin, or Lenin, either, and for the same reason: they are the Left's ideological heroes.

The fact that all of them -- every last one -- has more in common with ACTUAL Hitler than Trump causes their brains to overheat and BSOD, so they fastidiously avoid making that comparison.

Honestly, except for those into SA political history, who the hell would know who 'Peron' is anyway?

Who would know who "Peron" is?

Anyone who's seen or knows the story within "Evita", which was a VERY popular Broadway musical in the late 70s/early 80s, and got a MASSIVE resurgence of interest in the mid-90s when Hollywood decided to produce a silver-screen adaptation starting Madonna in the titular role.

However, that's as much of the historical figures as pop-culture knows, and the writers were free with certain ... liberties ... which made the story more interesting and palatable to American audiences. (Which is a kind way of saying, it's massively dramatized and biased favorably toward the protagonists, to the point of almost being an historical fiction.)

But who goes to the trouble of looking up what really happened, and what kind of people Juan and Eva Peron really were? Pshaw, that sounds an awful lot like work!

Right. The name Evita was big in pop culture 30-45 yrs ago. And of those who watched the musical/movie back then, how many would remember what her last name was or even what country it took place in (w/o having to sing the song in their head)?

I would wager not enough that trying to use it as a political attack will have much effect. Might as well use Ceaușescu

[raises hand] Yo!

Then again, I was and am a music nerd who actually paid attention to the lyrics. LOL!

Enough so to pick up that all the lottery-style "change your life" events were temporary: (IIRC) "Write your name and your dream on a card or a pad or a ticket / Throw it high in the air and should our lady pick it / She might change your way of life for a week or even two...."*

They were the kind of publicity stunt that gets a lot of attention and a lot of love from The People, but doesn't lead to any lasting change for anyone.

You'd be surprised how many people didn't realize that, even though it's right there in the lyrics.

* - The "Che" character -- the "narrator" figure played by Antonio Banderas in the '96 movie -- was IMO the best one of the bunch, by far. Mildly cynical, often critical, but his monologues were the most HONEST of anyone in the cast. Plus, who doesn't love a guy who can sing a song in a weird time signature ("And the Money Kept Rolling In" -- quoted above -- is primarily in 4/4-3/4 time, or 7 beats per phrase instead of the usual 8 or 6 ... but also constantly changing) and keep up?

Biden, apart from being senile, had a lot more in common with Peron than Trump ever did.
