Was teaching a class of HS students right about the age of starting to work. Most of these kids and their parents had been on gov't bennies for the majority of their lives. They started the class stating they had a right to all the gov't provided free stuff.

Then I flipped the script on them and started talking about their paychecks, what was being taken out, and why. W/o even realizing it, almost every one started going on about why should they have to pay for other people.

Dear Ms. Riddle: Yes, I WILL tell you that you cannot buy junk food on my dime. In addition, I will tell you how much of a single product you can buy with my money, and furthermore, if you arrive at the grocery in a less that 5 year old car (I'm being generous here as mine is a 2009) and a cell phone in your hand, I will strip a goodly percentage from your total allowance.

MIGUEL: Didn't I read that the Fed was considering imposing such a limitation of federally sourced programs? Fingers drumming . . . Yep. Found this:

"There are ongoing efforts to restrict the purchase of junk food with SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits. Trump administration officials, including Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and newly confirmed USDA Undersecretary for Food, Nutrition, and Consumer Services Janie Rollins, have expressed interest in banning sugary drinks, candy, and other unhealthy items from SNAP.

Rep. Josh Brecheen, an Oklahoma Republican, has introduced the Healthy SNAP Act, which aims to exclude soft drinks, candy, ice cream, and prepared desserts from SNAP benefits. The bill also requires the Secretary of Agriculture to ensure that eligible foods promote the health of SNAP recipients and reflect nutrition science, public health concerns, and cultural eating patterns."

I've seen it here in NYS. Shopping carts with the top lined with soda pop and the basket full of microwave prepared food that didn't appear to be Lean Cusine. Real stuff that needed a bit of preparation? Nope.

Meanwhile, as I'm cooking off silently, I realize that the cart full of veggies, fruit, meat and fixings will cost me a good 10% of my disposable income after the Gov't extracted it's tithe to feed the person in front of me. Overheard in conversation with the cashier was all about doctor's & dentist appointments for themselves and children. Funded by....Medicaid!

Stop creating a dependent class, it's inhumane.
