This sounds like the Babylon Bee, but it is real Tennesseans on the government (read taxpayers) tit:
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Candy and soft drinks could soon be prohibited for low-income families paying with SNAP benefits in Tennessee.
The “Tennessee Health SNAP Act” would require the Department of Human Resources to submit a request for a waiver from the United States Department of Agriculture’s food and nutrition service to seek authorization to prohibit the use of SNAP benefits for the purchase of candy and soft drinks. The bill passed in the Tennessee House on Monday.

“This is spring break for Metro [Nashville] Schools, can you imagine a family that is dealing with 6, 5, 4 kids and they can’t get any junk food,” Wakius Hereford, a shopper in Germantown told News 2.

You know? We should snap people out of SNAP altogether. Send that money to soup kitchens and similar and if people need a meal or three, they can get it there or to go.
“If all we have are SNAP benefits because we are all struggling and because of inflation, you can not tell me what I can and can’t eat,” said Theresa Riddle, who uses SNAP benefits.
The hell we can’t. But they truly do not understand that this is not government’s money because it does not generate income, it just redistributes monies taken from taxpayers.
Shoppers on Tuesday said lawmakers shouldn’t dictate how families choose to shop.
“Health choices are an individual choice and who are they to legislate morality?” one shopper told News 2.
Stuffing your face with Cheetos and Mountain Dew paid by the people of Tennessee rather than having a healthy meal is their definition of proper moral values.
It is hard to be Christian to these assholes.
Was teaching a class of HS students right about the age of starting to work. Most of these kids and their parents had been on gov't bennies for the majority of their lives. They started the class stating they had a right to all the gov't provided free stuff.
Then I flipped the script on them and started talking about their paychecks, what was being taken out, and why. W/o even realizing it, almost every one started going on about why should they have to pay for other people.
I've seen it here in NYS. Shopping carts with the top lined with soda pop and the basket full of microwave prepared food that didn't appear to be Lean Cusine. Real stuff that needed a bit of preparation? Nope.
Meanwhile, as I'm cooking off silently, I realize that the cart full of veggies, fruit, meat and fixings will cost me a good 10% of my disposable income after the Gov't extracted it's tithe to feed the person in front of me. Overheard in conversation with the cashier was all about doctor's & dentist appointments for themselves and children. Funded by....Medicaid!
