The most important improvement we got as we age is BRIGHT reading lamps. About 20 years ago we got Microsun lamps, which use metal halide bulbs with some tweaks to produce night daylight-colored light. I suppose you can get similar results with LEDs now. The key thing is lots of light. In places where we don't have these, I use 100 watt (or equivalent LED) bulbs, and that's marginal.
A good reading chair? Perhaps something in a well padded wingback with a good sidelamp and table with room for munchies, a book or two and beverage?
