Looked like a GLOCK, same make as in her duty holster. One wonders what the quality of their training is like....

Speaking of holsters: With as much trouble as she had removing it from the holster (IIRC, it took 3-4 tugs), I wonder if his had some kind of retention beyond simple friction. That's another piece of equipment we'd expect a law enforcement officer to be at least passingly familiar with, and adds to the danger; retention holsters are designed to make the gun (relatively) easy to access by the wearer -- anyone else is going to struggle, which is precisely the point.

Either way, the rule of thumb that unnecessary "administrative" handling results in more accidental/negligent discharges than anything else is yet again demonstrated true. A department would be much smarter to set policy to avoid handling a citizen's lawfully-carried firearms unless absolutely necessary.

Florida cop fired after she shot man with his own gun during routine traffic stop

You can watch police bodycam footage from all three of the officers involved in the shooting incident at the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office's official Facebook page, but it should be noted that the video is graphic.

The "Only Ones" a term coined by David Codrea, about the ones who judge themselves sufficiently trained to handle firearms. The "Unauthorized Journalist" at https://waronguns.com/

A bit of history on the term for those unaware: "Only Ones" -- as coined by Mr. Codrea -- is named after DEA agent Lee Paige, who during a school assembly drew his duty Glock, showed it to the kids, said "I am the only one in this room trained and professional enough to handle this," and not 10 seconds later shot himself in the foot with it while re-holstering. It was a small room, too; students were sitting close enough to possibly be hit by the spent brass.

(Notably, the Brady bunch and VPC and all them DON'T count that incident as a "school shooting".)

Mr. Codrea keeps two "tagged" lists that gun owners might find useful:

1. The "Only Ones" Files, which is a list of transgressions by cops that get excused or otherwise brushed off, but for which you or I would go to prison, particularly (but not exclusively) involving firearms.

2. The "Fauxnly Ones" Files, which is a list of criminal acts by criminals PRETENDING to be cops. It may serve useful if someone needs anecdotal evidence to justify assuming that someone behaving badly while in uniform, wearing a badge, or claiming to be police, is not in fact a real cop.

Glad to see another appreciator of David. His and Mike Vanderboegh's efforts on "Fast & Furious" are beyond compare.

I remember an article recently (here?) about some cop related organization, perhaps a union weeny, pushing for the elimination of the term "negligent discharge" because it made them look bad. (Well, it wasn't worded quite that way but it essentially meant just that.)
