OK, you are asking for a strong centralized form of government that dictates all instances of life. Some unnamed bureaucrats or “elected” critters in D.C. comes up with laws based on what they think is right and impose them on the rest of the nation. That is what you want?

The basis of the United States of America as stated in its most original document is the actual thing you dislike.
And for “I prefer continuity and predictability.” you are stupidly assuming that if that is achieved, it only means good things happening to all peoples because Central Government will be benign and all-loving to the People. But I lived in a country which had continuity and predictability and every election there was a predictable switch of sides (sort of ‘it is my turn now’) at governance and access to public funds which invariably were stolen. There was a continuity of politicians promising to fix things and then the things like roads and health care and public safety remained unchanged and inefficient. If you had to obtain a permit, renew a license, process some central state-mandated duty, you would predictably have to pay bribes to get it going or wait for the inevitable months or years of delay. We lived in a continual state of fear from the criminal element and predictably, you could not depend on Law Enforcement because they were part of the criminal element or paid for by them. And if you got too loud protesting against the continued uselessness of that Centra Government, you would predictably get a visit by certain officers who would offer you the chance to correct your behavior via arrest and imprisonment while you were being investigated for trying to upset the continuity and predictability or just outright become part of ecosystem with a perforation in the back of your head.

Another point ... The state model allows us as a nation to experiment with different approaches to problems and issues, with at least some higher level oversight and backup should something go seriously off the rails. That's a feature, not a bug.

What does get talked about is to restore to the states the powers they retain under the Constitution, and to make the Federal government obey the limitations in that document. That would, of course, trim the Federal government to perhaps 5% of its current size.
A unitary omnipotent Federal government was proposed during the Convention -- by Alexander Hamilton. It's worth reading (James Madison quotes it in full in his "Debates in the Federal Convention of 1787". You'll be horrified, and you'll understand why Neil Smith in several of his novels called the advocates of unrestricted government control "Hamiltonians". But that proposal went down like a lead balloon, not even getting a second to be discussed.
Unfortunately, TR and Wilson and FDR and their ilk gradually implemented Hamilton's plan in practice even if it never appeared in any words. And here we are...
