…
According to authorities, an investigation found that the 48-year-old man victim arrived at an apartment and repeatedly knocked on the door asking to speak with a woman he knew.A 60-year-old man who reportedly lives at the apartment with his girlfriend answered the door and asked the victim to leave. The 60-year-old told authorities that the other man continued knocking, and during the third interaction, the 48-year-old man and the woman started fighting.
According to police, the woman’s boyfriend said he saw the other man reach for an item in his waistband, at which point the 60-year-old shot the victim once.
The man called emergency services, but the victim — who had a BB pistol in his possession — was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials are working to notify his next of kin.

Keep the door closed. If the person does not leave, don’t open, don’t engage him, call the cops and wait for them to remove the offender. In less self-defense civilized parts of the country, you could get yourself in trouble if the local prosecutor wants to make a stink by saying you instigated the outcome by interacting and opening the door.
Never Break Perimeter.
Without knowing any more, I'd say the 60 yo was justified in shooting the 48 yo. If a reasonable person sees what looks like a pistol, it's presumed to be a pistol; you are justified in using deadly force.
It may take you $175 - 25 90K to plead your case (in legal fees), but it's winnable.
I don’t know if its available in the non police/military world but Ive heard tell of a pepper spray canister with a small hose on it… slip it under the door and give em a squirt.. they’ll leave.. or make something up that works the same way..
