I don’t know if its available in the non police/military world but Ive heard tell of a pepper spray canister with a small hose on it… slip it under the door and give em a squirt.. they’ll leave.. or make something up that works the same way..
Without knowing any more, I'd say the 60 yo was justified in shooting the 48 yo. If a reasonable person sees what looks like a pistol, it's presumed to be a pistol; you are justified in using deadly force.
It may take you $175 - 25 90K to plead your case (in legal fees), but it's winnable.

It would take a lot of CS to effect someone outside a door if your spraying from underneath.

Good advice, Miguel. The defender may have been "right", but now he is open to defending himself in the court system and that is rarely a good idea.
