it’s another made up holiday to give state and federal employees another day off to spend money …. I worked yesterday. the one benefit was way less frantic assholes “commuting” to thier cubical like they are rushing a bleeding kid to the hospital.. my employer only closes for Christmas and Thanksgiving. holiday pay is a nice perk- work 8 get paid for 16.. yes Sir, I agree, “get off my lawn”…

I don't know about that. Every place I've ever worked - private or public sectors - had New Year's Day off. (New Year's Eve is another story altogether; I've never gotten Dec 31 off unless I specifically asked for it or it naturally fell on a "weekend" ... and even then I've been called in.)

But yeah, holiday pay is always nice. My last workplace would put 8 hours of Holiday for the day that counted toward the 40 for the work week. If we had to work, it was OT by definition - since the schedule already had 40 hours - PLUS the Holiday hours, so working a holiday totaled out to 2.5x pay. I was in a financial place where I would volunteer to cover shifts on holidays because of that.

After 10' my Maine Coon came up and said it was time for bed. 18 lbs of "follow me, dammit!" was enough, after a long day and a Bullet Rye.
