One advantage of melatonin for me, is that the 3-4 AM bathroom trip is delayed until wake-up.

Sometimes you have to take what you have for as good as it's going to get, for now.

The wife uses melatonin with limited success, but I'm up to pee every 3 hours no matter what.

What dose of melatonin did you take? It's supposed to help you fall asleep and sleep more soundly, not knock you out. It's not a narcotic.

OTC melatonin comes in 1 mg, 3 mg, 5 mg, and 10 mg doses. (Personally, I like the "Fast dissolve" tablets from Natrol, available at pretty much any grocery store. White bottle, purple lid.) Most people start small and go up if they need to, and 3 mg or 5 mg is usually enough for a noticeable difference.

If it's knocking you out like that, maybe try a lighter dose if you can. If you're already on 1 mg, you can try cutting the pill in half.
