I understand that some Hawaiians want Hawaii to return to British rule. Senator Hirono seems to be one of them. At least they won't have to change their flag, or their gun laws.
Was Hawai'i ruled by Britain? That doesn't sound right. It was an independent kingdom for a while. Wikipedia explains:
"The use of the Union Jack is a legacy of the British Royal Navy's historical relations with the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi and, in particular, the pro-British sentiment of its first ruler, King Kamehameha I. The kingdom was never formally part of the British Empire."
Most of our immigrants came from common stock, not royalty or the nobility. The rich, well-to-do and the connected had little incentive to leave their country unless chased out by mobs with pitchforks and torches. It wasn't the rich ecomienda Filipinos, the well connected Chinese bureacratic elite, wealthy Portuguese or Samurai Japanese who immigrated to Hawaii. It was largely the serfs seeking a better life. The cream of that crop now run Hawaii like Brahmins. Hirono is one of those Brahmins. But it's only skin deep. Put her in front of a "real" king and watch her kow tow. It is a reflexive gesture she cannot resist. Bowing, in and of itself, is not a "bad" thing if done to show genuine respect or (appropriate) deference. Reflexively bowing to King Charles? Nope, even his late mom (God bless her) wouldn't expect that.
Who wants to see a purple haired Democrat get raked over the coals? Two people you don't try to use as a prop in a committee hearing: Bessent and Zeldin.

Didn't Obama bow to royalty or some such? Must be a Democrat thing.
And like all Democrat things, it's okay when *they* do it.
1. I'll salute the anthem and flag because they are an ally, but I'll be damned if I will bow to religious figures, politicians, and "royals."
2. As far as Hawaii going back to pre-statehood, the following might be an appropriate line of travel: https://www.crownofhawaii.com/kamehameha-ii
