Why We Carry. K9 Version.
A Florida woman was mauled to death by two dogs that neighbors say had terrorized the community — and now the animals’ owner is in jail.
The dogs are being held by the county’s animal services unit and will be euthanized, authorities said.
And now, neighbors along Blue Bonnet Drive don’t have to worry anymore about the duo that used to “terrorize” them, resident Dominica Midkiff told Fox News Digital.
Jodi Cowan, 50, had only lived on the street for about two weeks, Midkiff said.

We are going to ignore why previously warned authorities because the answer will probably be obvious and less than complimentary. But why were these dogs a terror to the neighbors is somewhat troubling to me: It is Florida, dear people. Carry your effing gun because you know they are present and constant danger. And if they come near you, use deadly force to remain alive and unhurt as much as possible.
There is a big doofus of a dog nearby, Great Dane not quite pure but behaves quite harmless and friendly. The big puppy escapes from time to time and checks out our property on his way to check others. Now, I attest to his attitude because I have been around dogs pretty much since I was a year old, fed them, raise them, trained them and was bitten by dog not mine. I can read the animals, and I can pretty much make a determination on their behavior.
And I have been wrong and got bitten for making a mistaken assessment. I was not hurt bad, because the dog responded to a small amount of behavioral modification by pain and went away. Which is to say I do not trust a dog I did not raise and train, including Big Doofus and have the means to change his behavior temporarily or permanently if he would cease being lovable and decided to get “bitey.”
And it would more than likely make me sad having to do so.

The question is what would have happened to the neighborhood resident who permanently pacified one of the dogs before they killed someone.
This is going to be maybe an unpopular opinion. Noting that I am a dog owner and, generally, love dogs ... Dogs shouldn't be out and about on public property without being under their human's control. If they are, and become aggressive, any results should be on the owner, not the person defending himself.
Went hiking w/ my daughter one time and these two tiny women got out of their car w/ a huge dane sized dog. It pulled loose from them and charged my daughter. Pretty sure it just wanted to say 'hi' but I got in between, wap-ped it w/ my hiking stick, and it backed off. Had it not, then the next, permanent, step would have been taken.
Women started to get mad until I turned on them and told them they'd better learn to keep control of their animal or else it would get shot.
Some people are just stupid.
