Unpleasant Surprise but Trouble Avoided.
I started to get my gear together for the Appleseed Pistol Clinic and having learned a hard lesson during my first rifle clinic, I went ahead and got the old reliable Taurus PT 92 AF out of storage to serve as back up pistol. This was my first gun in the U.S. and served me as SHTF and IDPA gun before I moved to other stuff.
One of the things I disliked and promptly changed is that came with very smooth wood grip panels giving a lousy grip. I got a set of rubber Pachmyar grips which back then is the only thing available for it other than friction tape and although it added thickness, but I did not mind.
When I started to unscrew the grip, it came apart in pieces.
I immediately went online looking for replacement only to find out that after these many years, there are still conflicting issues with the panels for the AF model and those who assured would fit will not be able to make it to my domicile till sometime next week, too late for the clinic.
Good news, I still had the original wood panels and this time they will get the damned friction tape.
Make a note: Check the weapons you haven’t used in a long while and make sure none of the bits come crumbling apart.
