One D.C. source, who asked not to be named due to these heated disagreements within the 2A community, says the all-or-nothing approach of trying to pass the HPA in the Senate was a risky overreach. Senate Majority Leader John Thune does not plan to overrule the parliamentarian, which is technically possible but comes with a fresh set of political and policy risks. For example, it could set a precedent that would allow Democrats to ban certain magazines and AR-style rifles when they have the majority again.
Silencer Deregulation Plan Fails in the Senate
Is there a chance that the Democrats regain the majority in Congress? Yes. But why are the Republicans behaving as that will be the outcome come next Mid-Terms? Rather than act like cowards, stop being fucking “polite” to the Democrats and consolidate your power in Congress by doing what your constituents want. Look at Florida where the Republicans played the B.S. game of “compassionate conservatives” trying to be complacent and be liked by “everybody” and were on their way to transform Florida from a purple State to a full Blue one. DeSantis got elected by the slightest of margins and went to work on a conservative and no-nonsense conservative way that quickly set Florida full Red State even with so many RINOS populating the legislature. Democrats will always vote with Democrats and Democrat causes no matter how well you treat them and they will never like you. Oh, they will pretend they do if you champion one or two of their causes, call you “maverick” and “great bi-partisan fellow” and then dump you like a cheap date after prom once you helped them achieve their goals.
Dear Republican Legislators: They will never like you. You will not be wooed and soothed by the herd of “The View” nor applauded by Rachel Maddow nor get an standing ovation at the DNC.
Stop acting like an abused girlfriend. Punch them in the nuts and be bold, take a chance. We are done voting Blue even if it comes wrapped on GOP Red foil.
You are afraid to lose Congress? Your cowardice is the reason that will happen.
"For example, it could set a precedent that would allow Democrats to ban certain magazines and AR-style rifles when they have the majority again."
As if they won't try that again anyway.
That kind of pusillanimous compromise is how we have lost so much of the 2A in the first place (see Lawdog's cake analogy).
If we ever had a SCOTUS that could read and follow the Constitution's plain English we could take the NFA and 1968 to court and have them abolished, as well as 99% of the rest of gun legislation Federal, State and Local.
