It's different, and at that, TN is warmer than most places I've gardened in my life (AK, NH, OH). Here in Texas I'm trying to adjust to the lack of water, and the long hot summers of over 100 for months.
There is a prescribed date for each area. Should be easy to find via the web. By the time you get as far north as southern Ohio, people start seeds indoors, with potting soil and grow lights, and wait to transplant to the garden. Cold frames and hoop houses are also cheap as you can build them out of scrap or PVC pipes and clear plastic
Basically a form of kudzu good for making tea. And it will. Not. Die. Even after hard winters in Illinois.
However ... Planted alongside the outer kitchen wall, in a flower bed with good isolation, it did a great job of keeping ants out of the kitchen because the mint oils overwhelm their scent trails. And mowing the lawn nearby always smelled wonderful. (The isolation worked ... kinda.)
up here we used to plant the garden on Memorial day weekend.. I may try and plant some tomatoes and peppers in a raised bed this year.
