KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — University of Tennessee, Knoxville Chancellor Donde Plowman said three current students and a former student who works at the university are at risk of being deported.
In an internal letter sent to university staff, Plowman said the legal status of the four people in the Student Exchange Visitor System has changed amid Immigration and Customs Enforcement efforts to change the legal status of international students across the country.
As a result of the status change, they are no longer legally eligible to be enrolled or employed and are at risk of deportation. Plowman wrote that federal records indicate the students and former student were “identified in a criminal records check.”
The F1 visa (Student visa) is a fragile thing to maintain. As a former International Student, I was well aware that there were many pitfalls that could land me in trouble and kicked out of the country with little chance to return even as a tourist. The most common was working without authorization (exception made if it was a non-paying job related to your field of study and it had to be properly reported) and not being a full-time student. After that is the usual stuff that young people do stupidly like DUI, drugs, fights and fraud in the form of skipping bills and debts.
Now, a citizen would probably have a softer treatment for first offense, but an International Student (at least back in my college days) would get him a nice letter from the government indicating the day he had to leave the country and if an appeal was to be made, it should be done at the US Embassy in the country of origin.
If you managed to clear things up, you may get your F1 renewed or at least you would not be banned from coming back to the U.S. for 10 years minimum. Worst case scenario (you seriously fucked up) you’d be arrested, tried, sentenced, serve and then kicked out of the country forever.
What the fauxrage tells me is that previous administrations simply decided to ignore faults and crimes by International Students, probably to avoid being accused of racism or other woke BS or that they could illegally vote a certain way.
We are not seeing a racist attack by the administration but just enforcing the laws already in the books for a long time now. But there are many people looking at things with Cheeto-colored glasses and losing their 2-neuron minds.
Thanks for the heads up on the next NPC talking point.
The bar for my believing outrage from the Left is real, went WAY up when they started burning Teslas and, especially, attacking their owners.
At this point, as you say it's just about an autonomic reflex response of "Trump says good? We say bad. Trump says do? We say don't do."
