I was finally able to zero and do a more thorough test of the Missus AR9 pistol. I am very happy with the alleged peashooter.
The build is as follows: Kaw Valley Precision Carbon Fiber 9mm Complete 4.5″ Barrel Upper a top of a Palmetto State Armory lower with PSA internals, Sylvan Arms AR-15 f/9mm Glock Conversion Block and TruGlo Ignite red dot. The lower originally had a SB arm brace, but the Missus found it too bulky, so it got switched with a Shockwave Technologies Blade Pistol Stabilizer. And as for the Grip, I got her a Trinity Force which I think is smaller than the traditional ones and she finds comfortable.
The zeroing was not a benchrest thing, but more of shooting at a paper target standing up unsupported at 25 yards and take the dot to the same zip code. Once I was somewhat satisfied, I switched to a nearby steel and ripped several shots. It was satisfying.
After that, I moved back to 50 yards and had no trouble getting consistent body shots, again standing and unsupported.
Oleg took a few shots, and he even connected at 90 yards.
If you are thinking “Thar red dot is set low” you are right. And that is because the user is a petite woman who had to raise her head and lose cheek weld to look for the red dot. She has no problem with this height while I have to crush my cheekbone to acquire it.
Did I mention it is light? A squish over 5 pounds makes it a featherweight. And being a 9mm means the perceived recoil is comfortable with little muzzle flip, if any.
As reliability, I think we put some 150 rounds of commercial and my reloads without a single hiccup. The magazines were a 27 rounder Magpul and a couple of 15 rounders from the same company. The 27 rounder had issues going in and out, it rubbed the Sylvian adapter some, but nothing that affected function. The regular magazines had no issues at all, my guess the 27 rounder bulges just enough to be a nuisance.
Hopefully next weekend we will go somewhere and have her shoot it to get used to it and get a few last licks myself. After that, I know I won’t be allowed to touch it ever again unless it is for cleaning.
She is mean like that.
exellent. these little firearms are a blast. I have one in .45, suppressed. and me , personally, I HATE dot sites on a 4 foot riser… low and smooth is the way to go. git her out on the range and put some rounds thru it.
