Yesterday at work, a client asked me which my social media outlet was wanting to make connection. I automatically said I was not on any for varied reasons. The client looked at me in amazement but dropped the subject. She may have had doubts, but since I look like an old fart, the thought of me being a quill and papyrus only person may have seemed slightly credible.
What surprised a bit me was the ease in which my answer was uttered. It was a full defense mechanism in action because I simply do not know what kind of individual that person is in regular life, nor I associate my job to what mt free brain does post online. Even though we connected famously during the short time we engaged, I do not know if some of my views would suddenly be considered as an affront to that client’s thought and if he may want to do something about it, namely screw me out of a job.
I believe in fighting dirty when the need arises. I supported what now is called doxing of “journalists” when they have gone and doxed Concealed Carriers just for kicks, political brownie points and headlines. But doxing and “cancelling” just because I don’t like your particular brand of political jelly is an absurd tactic which will eventually come back to spray karma back at you.
Some people are actually out of all social media. Good, that is their choice and if it works for them, twice the blessings. I choose to be in because I can stay in touch with liked-minded assholes like me, very amusing and lovely ladies and get a dose of funny stuff I sometime share with you guys in this place. I am always careful not to show where I work, nor the people I work or worked with but one exception. It makes for a safer cyber-environment in my opinion because it saves me from having to over-retaliate if somebody suddenly develops a burr under their bunched-up panties.
If you cannot abide with somebody’s politics or lifestyle, just remove him/her from your social media. As simple as that.
this is one reason my “profile” says self employed…and where I actually work I don’t have to interact with people much.. I do have some “controversial” stickers on my rolling tool box but most sheep are blind to them. I also will tell others im not on social media.. I don’t have much to say to people I don’t know .
