Substack is doing the Brit boot-licking thing?
I was checking comments and I found some blocked.
I clicked on the “verify age” and nothing happened. Then I went to “Learn More and I was taken to Our position on the Online Safety Act Here’s how we’re complying with the U.K. and Australia’s new regulatory measures.
After the introduction praising Freedom of Speech and how important it is for the world, we get this explanation:
With that context, the U.K. is now requiring online platforms to label certain types of content and ask people in the country to verify their age before viewing it, with Australia expected to introduce similar requirements in mid-December. Only specific categories fall under these rules, and we’ve shared more details on our support page.
Here is the list:
I don’t recall if I had my settings set for adult content, but I know I did not have this set.
So, it is now turned off.
And what were the nasty comments deserving of censorship? After a bit of VPN tweaking (originally set in the U.S. so I don’t get the “Your country Online Safety Act” info), I was able to see the offending ideas:
Now boys and girls, remember that the Brit authorities are offended by discussion of genocides and the such. Do not mention, suggest or even think about events that happened in places like Treblinka or Rwanda of Srebrenica.
<wink-wink>

I'm honored that one of those censored comments was mine. The Brits have no idea how much I detest their government these days. We should withdraw from NATO and let them flounder.
For several years now, as I've watched Britain's law enforcement, immigration, restrictions on speech, and increasing efforts to control the lives of their citizens, well, I just get happier and more thankful for those who conceived of and fought for the country we here in the US now enjoy.
