One of the people I follow in Twitter/X is @Mrgunsngear and I just caught this particular post about why his account was suspended. It seems that Patreon does not allow gun content in its platform, which is fine and you know it when you join, and he did not violate, but the final reason why he was canceled was because he does provide gun-related content outside Patreon and they can’t have that.
"Our guidelines apply equally to off-platform activity”
Dear Patreon, that is a bit overreaching and intrusive, don’t you think? I went to check on their guidelines and some stuff is rather conflicting with what we know about our rights and laws:
I am not allowed to fundraise for my candidate/group/party outside Patreon because I have an account with them?
And:
Again, what you allow and do not allow in your platform is OK s long as you have made it clear in your guidelines at the time of joining or any changes made after are dutifully promoted. But trying to dictate and prescribe behavior and specially constitutionally protected outside your domain is unacceptable.
And I have the feeling more like this is yet to come.
I wonder how many services like Patreon have such language either presently buried in their terms, or are going to quietly add it in the near future.
The language re fundraising reminds me quite a bit of the "non-compete" clause that is increasingly appearing in employment contracts.
until We the People say no more, this will continue. these people are never going to quit squeezing We the People. Americans have been complacent for far too long. All real Americans who have an account with this platform should cancel it immediately. hit them in the bank account and explain why. Restoring America is not just a political election. It will require work from every single American who isn’t a liberal.
