Reading over Vine of Liberty about Olympic Shooting sports, I am painfully reminded that they are boring as crap, but unfortunately most shooting sports are indeed boring unless you are a participant.
By its own nature, shooting sport is either tightly controlled or you may end up having safety issues which I grant, it would add a bit of drama to the event. So, unless you are deep in the intricacies of the particular event, it becomes as boring as watching paint molecules integrate with a substrate. And even after a while, you lose interest and want to watch some Ladies Beach Volleyball for the sportsmanship (yeah right).
Some days ago, I believe Larry Correia may have mentioned about elevating action shooting sports to Olympic Level to add a bit more of sizzle to the games. I recall years and years ago that it was proposed to bring IPSC or a close version of it to the Olympic games, but that baby was drowned at the speed of light, and it did not even get a chance to get a demonstration. I seem to remember that shooters in USA, South Africa and Germany were for it, but the Olympic Committee simply ignored the whole deal probably because the idea of a bunch of people with better guns than the security forces and a shitload of ammunition would create problems.
There might have been some idjits from certain middle eastern countries that may have tried to go Jihad on other teams, but the response would have been swift, final and worthy of medals for the winning teams. That would be a sport event to see and Olympic medals are truly worthy when you play for keepsies.
Seems to me that if they do as much practice, virtually living the sport, they should be the safest shooters on the planet, not in need of stringent safety protocols. I'm not saying less attention to safety, but less enforcement to the point that minor issues greatly affect the sporting outcome. And like any other Olympic participant, they are painfully aware of the rules and protocols.
Agree, boring as hell, but would go for watching Cowboy Action or IPSC, that is if I were to begin watching ANY Olympics again. Can't remember the last time I did, but it was long ago.
