My go-to sidearm for almost 20 years has been an FN-P 9mm. It has shot thousands of rounds flawlessly and it is accurate which is the two most important factors when it comes to a defensive weapon.
It never became a popular weapon, and it was eventually phased out by FNH in favor of their new generation of sidearms that are striker-fired. And as it always happens with less-than-popular weapons, parts stop being produced specially magazines.
And what remains in the market do fetch stupid prices.
Thank God for once in my life I was smart enough to snatch magazines every time I saw one and always paid half or less of the asking price above. Still to this day, whenever I attend a gun show or browse a store, I keep my eye for the magazines just because.
You may want to review your collection, see what needs to be reinforced magazine-wise and maybe build up the stash. I forget where I read that any gun you have should have a minimum of 5 mags accompanying them. If your particular firearm is not popular, you should double that.
Never assume you will find magazines forever.
you can never have too many of anything firearms related..
Agreed. That's one thing I appreciate about more companies offering "free" magazines. Springfield has been doing it a while with their GearUp promos, now S&W, Taurus and FN are doing it for some models at least.
Since Mrs B and I now use the same carry pistol make and model, it was a straightforward choice (which thankfully we have the resources to do) to get a third near-identical gun as a backup. Thanks to the GearUp promo we should have a net of 15 magazines whenever SA gets around to shipping the promo packages.
