2 here, but one is a short version used to cut sugar cane in Louisiana. Inherited that one from my father. However, I prefer the 9mm, 45 cal, and 12 ga. I prefer my target to be more than an arm's length away when I go active.
I actually have one (Harbor Freight) by the back door. I’d never think of reaching for it, mainly because I forgot I had it. OTOH there is about one 9mm in every occupied room of the house. Machetes are tools, and not one I would employ. No sugar cane around here.
Tom from WNY yes. Now to all of todays substacks which had to do with crime. A friend has been having trouble with feral kids in NYC. Caught on camera. NYPD reaction, someone in plainclothes, w/ office. we can not even take a report. Tom again the machete is a good idea. So much for crime going down.
Hells, I've got a Tractor Supply 18" cheapy machete. It was a dull as Kamalaho out of the box, but it sharpened up to a very nice yard blade; perfect for those @#$%^&* Brazilian Pepper trees. However, it's a real pain to move with, especially if you use the belt sheath. HTF did Lucifer (Truth in Advertising) get what looks to be a two foot blade into NYC streets and the subway?
"Overall: Tactical/survival style, roughly 24" overall with a ~17.75" blade, made from 3Cr13 stainless steel.
It's sold by Sierra Zulu Gear as a versatile outdoor, camping, hunting, or bushcraft tool. The sawback adds utility for cutting branches or rough sawing, while the main edge handles chopping and slicing. It often comes with a black nylon sheath (not shown in your photo)."
Have to count, stand by. 4 machetes one with blood? groves, and one really cool scythe. But I much prefer semi auto pistols thanks very much. Not releasing the count on those.
Other than chopping up your fellow city dwellers, I cannot think of any valid reason to have a machete in NYC.
Upstate, where we have swamps, fields and forests is different.
valid reason?? so you can have machete fights with other crazy machete people… heh heh.
I have 4 of them(I win, so far) one belonged to my grandfather and has a 3/8 inch wide spine.
Doesn't that qualify it as a short sword?
"Other Than"
It's New York. With Crazy NY Commies. Good enough for me...

Projectile launching devices preferred.
Unfortunately its NYC. Also these people, the ones having the trouble are not the kind to deal with projectile weapons. But yeah.
You can tell a machete user by the number of scars on his shins.
I have a few...

Well, getting a machete seems like a more obtainable dream for me than getting a flamethrower and a chainsaw.
I don't have one, but I do have two hatchets -- one from my boy scout days, one inherited from my father's boy scout days.
Better choice.
