The auto industry’s massive pullback from its electric vehicle plans has claimed another victim: Honda, which posted its first annual loss since 1955.
Honda and other global automakers downshifted their EV ambitions after the Trump administration changed US emissions rules and ended a $7,500 tax credit for American buyers. EV sales fell sharply after the tax credit went away in September, and the recent spike in gasoline prices has not sparked a significant increase in EV demand by US buyers.

The actual breed of so-called electric cars are an inconvenient to the immerse majority of people. They are not electric but battery-operated conveyances that take a stupid amount of time to bring back to the road once they run out of juice. Mind you, I believe electric cars will be a great way to move around, but only after the power plant issue is resolved by matching and even surpassing the range and speed of refueling of gas-powered vehicles. Right now, the poignant question for EVs is how many miles per charge something that the average gas-powered car owner does not even care about other than in long range trips so refueling stops coincide with a local attraction, an overnight lodging or doing the Buc-ee’s thing. And if a long overstay is not desired, they are back on the road after a 5 to 10 minute refuel, bathroom stop and restocking of chips, candy and drinks.
Back to Honda’s loses and the rest of the coming similar news: I have to wonder if car companies decided just to cash in rather than take the effort of exploring ways to remove their vehicles from the yoke of the batteries. I am going to say they just cashed in because they were hopeful the gravy train would never stop. Why spend money on research when profit comes in without effort and only minimum lobbying to the proper politicians?
Not to mention that if you charge from the US grid, your electric car is in fact running 20% on coal. It's just being burned somewhere else.
Careful, you're going to get the EV faithful in here telling you how much money they're saving.
EV is fine for short trips into town w/ no added weight. Need to go long distance and/or haul something? You're nothing but a boon to the stores/restaurants at the numerous charging stations you're going to have to stop at along the way.
And as far as the 'tax credit', we all watched those same companies/ ealerships jack up their prices right after the 'credits' were announced. W/ them gone, the prices aren't going to come down until the dealerships try and dump their overstock.
