It keeps happening for a reason.
Another nutjob, apparently and unexpectedly a Liberal Lefty tried to go Banzai and kill whomever he could from the top tier of this administration. And he failed, thank God.
And once again the calls to “cool down the rhetoric” came out diligently out of the mouths of political pundits on both sides and again both are only partially right. Yes, there needs to be a rethinking on the shit leaders on the Left think they can say, but it won’t happen because they less-than-secretly wish their political enemies get to suffer or die so they can get more power. Harsh words? Perhaps, but I doubt I a wrong.
And let’s face it, just as any career criminal, the chances that they change their souls and truly believe in cordiality and free exchange of ideas is pretty much in the null section. But same as with other violent criminals, they will respond to true consequences of their actions and think twice if they believe for a second it is their body the one getting what they wish for others.
And o course, this will not happen till the other side provides them with the immunity of perceived action, the knowledge that no matter how bad they behave, their targets will only mouth political pleasantries, even mutter vapid possibility of legal counter-action, but there is no real meat to it. They feel safe to do their incitement because they are allowed to be safe.
Nothing will change till we get rid of this polite immunity for those who wish us harm. And I fear that there is a lack of genital fortitude to do so by people in charge who are too squeamish and which will lead to things turning real ugly.
No, I do not see a happy ending anywhere, or even a quiet one.
When Jeffries doubled down on his "war" rhetoric I thought wow, what an ass. But I then realized he is saying what he thinks AND what will get him reelected. The scary part is therefore not just the violence-inciting politician, but the many who voted for him, and will support and do so again. For every politician spewing hate and violence there are thousands of supporters in the communities.
I fear that the omens are all too accurate and that the implementation of "Sic Semper Tyrannis" is close upon us. The leftists (whatever you want to call them, ok, 'assholes') keep poking the wolverine, thinking it wouldn't dare attack them.
