PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A 25-year-old man riding his bike was fatally shot in South Philadelphia after three suspects fired more than 40 shots just off Broad Street on Wednesday night, police said.
The shooting happened on the 1500 block of Snyder Avenue around 7 p.m., according to police.
Police said the man was shot multiple times and pronounced dead on the scene at 7:08 p.m. Police identified the 25-year-old man as Kaishef Johnson of Philadelphia.
According to police, the entire shooting was caught on surveillance cameras.
Chief Inspector Scott Small said three men got out of a dark-colored sedan and began firing shots at the bicyclist. They then stood over Johnson and shot him while he was on the ground. Police believe he was targeted.
"They clearly are targeting and shooting at this 25-year-old male who's on the bicycle... when the victim falls off of his bike, falls onto the street, the three shooters are seen standing over him, and continuing firing shots."
“Targeted” is the new buzzword/substitution of gang shooting and I am quite sure you have seen it used a lot in your local video or paper rag. It is a nice deflection to make people feel horrified at the crime, yet not afraid that they could be next because they are not involved in bad stuff thus cannot be targeted. That the three shooters suck at shooting and mag-dumped a guy without regard for where the bullets may end is not even considered by the idiots of the Press.
I understand why this particular event could not be addressed as an old school drive-by because there was no driving involved but the getaway and the shooters were immobile till they sprung the ambush. But, trying to make the event somewhat antiseptic and I would even dare say to “avoid stereotypes” is asinine and disingenuous.
