BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – One man is dead after police say he accidentally entered the wrong apartment and was shot.

According to the Bowling Green Police Department, officers responded just before 1 a.m. Sunday to a reported burglary in progress at 1317 Scottsville Road.

Police say while they were enroute, the caller remained on the phone with dispatch and reported someone was actively kicking the door into the apartment.

According to authorities, a man made entry into the apartment and was shot and killed by the resident.

Police say the individual killed has been identified as 23-year-old Matthew Maggart, a resident at the apartment complex.

Police say evidence suggests he was impaired and accidentally entered the wrong apartment.

Other sources say he was a student at Western Kentucky University where he was on his way to get a degree in Hospitality Management. I am guessing managing Food and Beverages was not his strong point.
