I am not debating legality.
It is all about smart tactics and survival.
Let’s use pedestrian las as base for the argument.
I do a lot of driving in Nashville and for some reason, the amount of idiots that see the green pedestrian light and proceed to dart across the street without looking and making sure no cars are going to convert them into bouncing dolls is unsurprisingly high.
Yes, Pedestrians by law do have the right of way, but that does not mean that collision will not happen with a distracted driver. The best tactic is to look first and make sure you do not end up as bloody hood ornament rather than mentally scram “IT IS MY RIGHT!” and cross without looking.
So, did Alex Pretti have a right to carry? Yes. Zero doubt. Did he have the right to protest? Indeed. Did he have the right to go into a physical tussle with Federal Agents while carrying a gun? Maybe, maybe not. Was it bad tactics? Abso-fucking-lutely, just ask him. Wait, you can’t. He is dead.

When I began carrying I was advised to be more thoughtful and circumspect with where I went and how I acted. I found that to be good advice.
It seems some others flip to the other side and allow their carry to embolden them as though a carried weapon encourages them to be less thoughtful and take more risks. Not wise, in my opinion.
All of your comments about Alex's rights are dead on. Pun intended.
