I can’t tell you how long I have been following Greg Ellifritz online. He caught my attention because in a digital world of supposedly “tough guys” and “experts” he was actually getting in the mud, learning and then turning around and teaching what he learned, never sounding like he had the ultimate truth, nor showing off, just pointing out what made sense.
I just finish reading his latest and it was a reminder that even the prepared will not be as prepared and that the mind is as important as the gadgetry. And learning from mistakes is what keep us breathing.
I fell while hiking down a small mountain last week. I was fairly seriously injured, stranded in an area with no cell coverage, and ended up needing an EMS rescue to get me to the hospital. After cogitating about the incident for a week, I have some lessons learned to share so that the rest of you don’t end up in the spot I was in.

Go read. I already found a gap in my equipment that got plugged via Amazon and a mental one via 5 minutes of online videos.
Greg, you get better. And thank you for what you share with us.
Thanks for this. I’ll have to add him to my regular reading list.
Same here. Been reading him in print and online for a LONG time. Hell of a story and a couple of lessons in there even for me -- no chance of hiking with my legs, but a couple of ideas nonetheless.
