God Bless the Stupid.
Because they are the providers of internet fun.
Seems there was a bit of outrage about the US sub taking down the Iranian ship.
First, we should refresh our definition of the word:
For some reason I don’t understand, these people have come up with their idea that a war ship, an object, can be noncombatant and then that it is free from attack because it is in international waters. If your country is engaged in hostilities and you are a warship of such country, you are a nautical bomb magnet wherever the heck you might be located in the world.
Let’s see an example from WWII, the KMS Bismarck one of the top war vessels of Nazi Germany. Here is a map of his course during the chase and where eventually was sunk.
I do believe those were and still are international waters. War crime by the Brits? Hardly.
As for the accusation that the sub did nothing to rescue survivors and therefore War crime! the Community Notes in one of the posters already expand on the legality of submarines not taking on survivors, but still for those who are too dense to understand a submarine is already packed with people and all it needs to survive for months without surfacing which leave little space to take on hostile survivors. It probably has a brig for 3-4 people and no captain with any brain would allow enemy personnel just wonder around their boat out of a misguided sense of humanity.
Can an enemy ship be safe from attack out there in the world? Yes, they would have to surrender to a neutral country, shut down all operation but for the very basic to keep the lights on, shut down and seal all communication devices and the same for their munitions and weaponry and do not engage in any activity to support the war they are involved with. And if I remember correctly, any violation and the host country can either confiscate the ship or tell the captain to leave port immediately and head to international waters.
For many of these idiots, they base their complaints on some shape-shiting Marquess of Queensberry rules of warfare according to how they feel that morning.
Reality is just a construct to be ignored through tantrums and impertinence.

First, if you are involved in a fair fight, your tactics suck. Second, German U-Boat commanders at the end of WWII were NOT prosecuted for war crimes for sinking freighters and abandoning their crews, Nor were U. S. submarine commanders prosecuted for doing the same thing in the Pacific war. Time and technology have made the "Cruiser Rules" of the 19th century moot.
So, international waters is a no-combat area. Therefore, hostilities are allowed only within the waters of the combatants? Good grief. Do those people ever hear themselves?
