Fort Dickerson. Knoxville TN.

I visited it yesterday for a few minutes. Found it by accident and it was educational.

The artillery pieces aimed at the old target areas were amazingly illustrative.

Obviously, the actual vegetation was not present during the unpleasantness, but you could peek in between the trees and notice the amazing commanding position that made the defense of the city possible. And trying to reach its top without modern air support would be a suicidal proposition on foot and very difficult with armor as it is easily defensible.

And no, I did not bring a “souvenir” with me. The Missus said no.
