After the terrorist attack in Boulder and the selection of weapon used, the question being asked among those of us in the Defensive Lifestyle has been, do you carry a fire extinguisher?

Of course, we don do a body carry of a bottle, but more of do you have one accessible nearby? As you read this, where is your nearest fire extinguisher? Is it yours or is it the one that came with the location or vehicle? Is it fully charged? And most importantly, do you know how to use it?
If you think you need and upgrade or simply you need one (Two is one and one is none) you are in luck. As usual, I am stealing from Greg Ellifritz and his two recommendations for somewhat portable fire extinguishers: First Alert EZ Fire Spray and LifeSafe Technologies StaySafe All-in-1 Portable Fire Extinguisher.
And the Big Box Club stores like Costco and Sam’s Club run specials now and then for regular size twofers for very decent price. Sam’s Club have this one for $32 and change.
One of them are 5 feet away from where I am writing and the companion is in my vehicle. They have been there for the past four years.
I have one more in the bedroom, one in the kitchen and at least two on opposite sides of the garage.
Now that the particular cat of using fire devices as anti personnel weapons is officially out of the bag in our times, the need for a nearby fire extinguisher is morally and tactically mandatory.
Make sure you take your powder type extinguishers out of their holders once a year and shake them until you can feel the powder shifting around in them. If necessary, get a rubber mallet and whack them a few times (away from the neck, of course,) to get that powder to break up and shift around when you shake it.
Do the same for vehicle carried extinguishers. If you can't feel the powder shifting, try the mallet trick. If nothing works, get a new one.
And, obviously, check the pressure gauge.
I have fire extinguishers in my house. Not planning on adding to my EDC gear. Just going to stick with my Fire Bug Extinguishers.
