I found the article and checked the specs:
French startup Vela plans to launch its first wind-powered cargo ship in early 2027. The vessel (under construction and depicted as a rendering) will be capable of transporting over 400 tons of goods on a route across the North Atlantic.
Go read the article to find out it will carry less cargo than the first container ships, it does not deliver faster than a regular container ship and its only “advantage” is that it is has no impact on the environment, or so they say.
It is not even as a concept for bigger and faster sailing ships, this is it. Re-inventing sail ships but doing the duty inefficiently and feeling proud about it.
Their advertising:
Half the speed, a fraction of the cargo capacity... twice the cost.
CA and WA states will soon mandate all cargo be delivered by these.
Gee what a novel concept, a fast sailing ship, nobody ever thought of that before. Oh wait Donald McKay built the "Flying Cloud" in 1851 which set a record of 89 days 8 hours, New York to San Francisco 'round the Horn. A record that lasted for 135 years.
