DP28 machine gun history and function
Author and collector of sharp pointy things and assorted weird weapons Michael Z. Williamson shoots. Also, a brief appearance by yours truly.
It was the first full auto gun I ever shot, and I think so far, the only one. Recoil is indeed surprisingly mild and overall it was very easy to shoot for somebody who had never gone auto fire before. The magazine is a horrifying annoyance to load but it worked without hiccups.
And the video shows my definition of cover: Any object where you can hide behind and stop particular incoming rounds. That tree was just concealment for the 7.62×54mmR.
