I believe I mentioned on a previous post that my raised bed was attacked by the Evil Underground Dwelling Critters (EUDC) and as a result, two legs were twisted and it was just about ready to collapse.
And it came to pass…
I did not take a picture previous to this, but the area under the new raised garden bed was like a Boston’s Big Dig so I had to refill with dirt and gave it a good dose of castor oil just to see if the effing EUDCs stay the hell away.
About the half smart thing I did was shovel the dirt from the injured bed to the new one before doing any fixes. that amount of dirt is heavy (surprise!) and the idea of that crap landing on my foot and then being subjected to several hours of the missus berating on my stupidity was not attractive.
And angle grinder with a metal cutting disk and about 4 minutes of labor was all it took to make the old be serviceable again. Both beds are off the ground and hopefully I have no more issues trying to raise herbs and peppers.
I did get another orchid. It was a poor abused thing who the gardening folks in Walmart may have forgotten to water and decided it was to sell 50% than try to save it. Let’s see if manage to bring it back and hopefully I will see some white orchids next year, but I will settle for a nice healthy growth.
And I tweaked my back so I spent half Sunday with the appropriate back pills and plenty of rest while streaming stuff. I did collect some of the parsley and it is now resting comfortably in my freezer.
If you are going to use these raised beds (on the ground), a layer of blue stone gravel (1-1.5 ") in the bottom, 2 inches thick, will make it very hard for the critters and provide decent drainage. Or you might go with stainless steel window screen in the bottom.
