Several pundits, such as CNN’s Jim Acosta, claimed Hispanics voted against their “self-interest.” And MSNBC’s Joy Reid accused Hispanics of voting against their race: “Y’all voted with … David Duke and against your …wives, sisters, and abuelas.” This kind of race essentialism – believing that Hispanics should vote solely based on their race – is the real racism, not the perceived slights the media obsesses over.
I just love when people use Spanish as a way to “reach” us, as if they are saying “I am like you or at least I am aware of your own uniqueness as a minority and want to share it. I am you!”
Bullshit.
But let’s continue.
Our key finding: Hispanics have the same concerns as everyone else. Hispanics are just as concerned about their faith and families, the economy and inflation, crime, and the direction of the country as all Americans. President Trump spoke to these concerns far better than Democrats, and that’s the reason for his historic performance with Hispanics. And, it turns out, with Americans of almost all backgrounds.
DING! DING! DING! We have a winner!
Either if we migrated here legally or are born in the US from a family of immigrants, we want what everybody else wants: to live in a country that gives us the fighting chance to live freely and prosper. We are not dumb children that need to be talked down, we understand nothing is promised and the goal we may have set perhaps will not be reached, but we understand that and accept it freely (that is the pesky word again.)
But when you address us like we are retarded peasants, we get mad and stop liking you. When you equate assholes that crossed the border illegally and are given all kinds of benefits paid with our taxes while we actually had to spend money for Federal fees and paperwork because we did things legally, we are going to resent the hell out of you.
And when you insinuate that we are traitors to our race, it tells me two things: You do not know what a Latino is and also ignore what it culturally means for many Latinos being called traitors.
I have said it before: Latinos/Hispanics is not a race per se but a culture. If somebody asks a Liberal what a Latino looks like, and this is what they see in their minds:
One of the dumbest comments/defenses I keep hearing over and over in favor of Open Borders is that we need the “undocumented” to keep cheap lettuce available at supermarkets and have our lawns and shrubbery neat and pretty on the cheap. That the Liberals keep repeating the same points that Democrats in the Southern states used to secede and go to war seems to escape their minds. Then again, scratch a Liberal, find the racist is a valid meme.
But Latinos come in all shapes, color and sized because we are the official Melting Pot of the World. Not only the bloodline has indian blood, but it has heavy Spanish, Portuguese and Black DNA mixed in different concentrations or not at all. Heck, how many jokes have you seen of Teutonic-looking Argentinians? If you try to shoehorn us in one color, you are going to develop a great resistance, probably will be told to insert your genitalia in your rear orifice.
And now allow me to introduce you to the word “gusano.” Its literal translation is “worm” as in the crawly creature. But it also has the political meaning of traitor/collaborator and was made famous by Fidel Castro and almost every other communist asshole who managed to get power. The moment you were branded gusano by somebody in power or associated with power, your life and the life of your family became miserable. You lost your job and benefits, your family suffered, your kids were targeted in school and things got progressively worse till you either had to run away or you are taken to the nearest “re-education camp” in the prison system.
So, when we hear imbeciles like Jim Acosta hinting, we are traitors to our “race” what triggers in us is deep revulsion because we know what that may lead to. We remember what happed to relatives or friends of ours and some even remember what they went through themselves. And then we remember we live in the U.S. of A where certain rights are inalienable and if Acosta’s Milicianos* buddies ever dare to try knocking our doors at Dark Thirty to “re-educate” us, we have ways to respond.
Voting is one. You know the other.
*Milicianos: related to military conscripts, but also known for being Castro’s Militia who would go to homes and arrest “gusanos” without due process.
I worked/work with people of all ethnic backgrounds. We are all Americans. That's how I view us.
Gonna go out on a limb here and suggest that rather than check the boxes on the census forms we refer to each other as Americans. Suddenly it’s more obvious why a plurality of voters voted for American values. I find the concept of “hyphenated Americans” to be a bunch of tiresome leftist bullshit.
