A path to.....
My humble opinion on the illegals
O)K, since we are hearing more and more about the Illegal Aliens that are here but not involved in crimes and they may be given a path to (not fucking citizenship) stay here just because it is a civil offense, I want to propose the following: Yes, I will give them a way to stay provided that:
Sine Qua Non: Entering/remaining in the United States illegally becomes a federal felony, bars the individual from staying in the U.S. and prohibits any future chance of living or even visiting the country. Nothing gets “fixed” till this becomes the law of the country.
Illegals must present themselves with documentation to ICE/DHS offices within the US and apply for entrance/acceptance.
That ICE/DHS/FBI conducts a background check on the person (here and abroad). If no information is able to be found, out you go back where you come from by a certain short date. You get a chance to re-apply at your country’s U.S. Embassy/Consulate/etc.
If you pass the background check and are approved, you are to be given a Transitory Resident Visa. This visa does not qualify you for anything other than living in the US. You do not get benefits and are subject to extradition without recourse if you break the law (I am thinking one felony and/or three serious misdemeanors) plus a permanent ban from ever coming back. If you fail the background check because of previous crimes, it is an automatic return trp to your country of origin or wherever they may take you.
The Transitory Resident Visa lasts for 10 years. After that decade and having demonstrated good behavior and compliance with all the laws, paying taxes, etc, you will be allowed to apply and obtain an Adjusted Resident Visa which have all the benefits and regulations of a regular Permanent Resident Visa, but you can’t never become a citizen. End of story. You don’t get to enjoy the full prize because you entered the country illegally.
Failing to apply for Transitory Resident Visa will be treated the same as entering the country illegally. One year after Entering Illegally is made a felony, the registration process will end anybody not in the lists to obtain the TRV will be subject to arrest, charged with felony entering/remaining in the country illegally and subject to automatic extradition and permanent ban from ever returning to the country.
Of course a couple of tweaks will be needed, but I believe this is a decent framework which all can live with. Unless what you want is a full and free invasion.

"(I am thinking one felony and/or three serious misdemeanors)"
Too lenient. Most people here go through life with no arrest, misdemeanor or felony. Why would we want someone here, a petitioner for citizenship, who should be on his best behavior to be allowed to stay after even one misdemeanor? I could concede that could be on case-by-case basis depending on how ugly the crime was but absolutely no second chance.
If you won't repatriate your here illegally ass elsewhere, I have three words. Tre. Buh. Chet. (Say them rapidly).
An alternate view...
