I inherited my fathers 20 ga Mossberg Defender. The one thing I discovered was that there were a limited number of defense rounds back then. I haven't looked lately it might have improved.
I've never considered the 20 ga. as inferior to the 12. The reason I own 12 ga. shotguns is that there is a wider variety of ammo for the 12 vs. 20. I was hunting turkey this morning with my 20 ga. Baikal double; it's easily one of my 2 favorites (the other is my Ithaca M37 12 ga.). It would get the job of making Mr Gobbler deceased as well as any 12.
Push-pull hold with a 12 gauge makes a considerable difference in felt recoil too.
